Room Painting Ideas–Audrey’s Bathroom Makeover

When Audrey’s house was built, the builder neglected to prime the bathrooms properly. This caused the allegatoring effect that you see in the picture above. Allegatoring refers to cracks in the paint film that resemble an alligator’s skin. Eventually, all the paint can chip off the surface and expose the bare dry wall.

Speed Pro remedied the problem by scraping off the remaining loose paint, sanding the surface to get it as smooth as possible and applying a skim coat over the entire surface of the ceiling. A skim coat is a thin layer of drywall compound. This will cover the effected area completely and hide all the damage. Once sanded, a proper coat of primer can be applied.

Not having the proper primer can also cause poor wallpaper adhesion. Speed Pro removed the wallpaper and found the wall surface to be similar to the ceiling. Plus a few surprises! The surface was sanded, patched, sanded again and primed.

Speed Pro painted the ceiling and walls, repainted all the trim and repainted the vanity. We changed out the hardware on the vanity. We installed a new light fixture and mirrors.

Audrey’s bathroom was transformed!

My admittedly long neglected main bathroom presented many challenges ranging from wallpaper removal (and underlying “surprises”) to repairing an improperly prepared ceiling that “rained” egg shell paint chips onto the floor.  My project also needed new cabinet hardware, a new light fixture and new mirrors to produce a more updated look for my tired 60’s space.  Tara and her crew took care of them all.  My small part was to provide my purchased choices and let them put it all together into a totally different looking room, that still wow’s me when I look at it.
